When we first started to plan the format for Digitalgig we always had it in mind to stretch our reach to the rest of the world at some point.
We anticipated some interest from across the waters but we couldn’t have possibly predicted the amount of interest we’ve had, both from fans of UK music and bands wanting to be heard on our fair isles.
To date we have had phenomenal interest shown in Digitalgig from readers and bands from a massive 73 countries from six continents (and we’re reaching out to all Antarctic research scientists to make it a clean sweep!). All of this from a mere three issues! And everything is pointing to this just being the tip of the iceberg.
This level of interest in the underground music scenes of the UK and a genuine desire from bands around the world to reach into one of the hotbeds of popular music – The United Kingdom – gave us a dilemma; how to best serve the bands that we believed in so much that we set up to promote them in the first place and how to broaden our focus to include our new friends from abroad. The answer was simple:
Make Digitalgig bigger.
So here we go. From this month onwards we will be adding to our already successful format – More bands – more reviews – more everything in the long run. We’ll also be bringing online our much anticipated ‘Bits’ sections throughout this month and will also be able to make an announcement about our ‘Music Town of the Year 09’ competition in the very near future. There are also a few brand new things in the pipeline that we really think will help bands get their music out there to completely fresh audiences.
There’ll be more news on all of these great new features in the next few weeks so, if you haven’t already, hook up with us on myspace (http://www.myspace.com/digitalgig) and twitter (https://twitter.com/digitalgig) and we’ll make sure you get to hear about things right away.
All in all it’s a very exciting (if a little exhausting) time for everyone involved with Digitalgig. We are, as always, waiting to hear your suggestions for the future, be they about music scenes you think we should feature, article ideas or whatever else you think we should have a look at so give us a shout. We’re very friendly types.
