whole. The only downer is that everything closes at 2am – they need to change that, LA is crying out to be a 24 hour city. The campaign starts here, kids!
Who did you work with on your ‘Get Burned’ EP?
James: Just us! It started off as just home recorded demos, but everyone was so into the songs that we ended up releasing them
What was the experience like?
James: Horrible – I’m really hard to work with! Only joking, it was really liberating to achieve something entirely on our own. We’re immensely proud of it. I don’t know if we would want to self produce again though – I think the input of a good producer makes all the difference, but never say never…
What music are you listening to at the moment?
James: I WILL be listening to The Horrors and Jarvis Cocker in about an hour – I’m off to see them play in London tonight! Other than that I have been listening to some obscure old Ultravox records, oh, and the new Art Brut is good.
What’s your dream collaboration?
James: Wow – that’s a huge question. Living or dead? If he were still alive, for me, no one can touch Joe Strummer. What a legend… Living, well I love what Nick Cave is doing right now…
Where do you get your inspiration?
James: Absolutely everywhere. We listen to so much music – that is the great thing about being in a band with someone from a different country. Sterling turned me on to The Cars, Love, and weirdly The Libertines. I am always playing her stuff like Neu and Kraftwerk. We go out to the desert to write a lot too. Just getting out of your usual places can inspire.
Darlings of the Day are destined to go a long way. If you weren't lucky enough to catch them on their recent tour check them out now on their MySpace page. You can also get their great ‘Get Burned’ EP from iTunes.
