Amber: We got a mail on our MySpace from the promoter for Brixton Jamm who was looking for electronic bands to play this night. He sent Hot Chip our stuff and they asked for us to play. We’re over the moon as we are both big fans of theirs and it’s a huge compliment.

What’s been the Heads.Hearts highlight so far?

Ed: That. And being asked to play at Brighton Pride. For me, there have been loads of little highlights in the studio when Amber’s nailed a vocal take.  And our first gig was also one of the best moments. I wasn’t sure how the sound would translate live. The reaction we got meant I didn’t worry about that any more.

You are known for recording vocals in a wardrobe! What’s that all about?

Amber: All the music we’ve created has been from scratch in Ed’s studio. This is great but we didn’t have a vocal booth to get that really dead, clean vocal sound.

Ed: We tried all round the room, but the sound was still ringy. A bit like you get in a bathroom. Which might have worked for Phil Spector, but didn’t work for us.

Amber: There was nothing left to do, except crack open the wardrobe doors and practically get in there between the clothes. It plays havoc with synthetic-fibre allergies but it gets us the sound we need.

You’ve had a great reaction to your live shows. What’s a typical Heads.Hearts gig like?

Amber: Heavy baselines, cute melodies and tonnes of energy.

Ed: As much like a party as we can make it. It’s not always possible, but we try and pick the nights to play that fit our sound. And it’s not just about how we play on the night. It’s also about all the other stuff; what the club’s like, how much the drinks cost, what the other bands are like. We try to get on shows where the whole night is as good as possible for the people who come - not just our bit of it.  That way everyone has a better time and people come back. We always give out free CDs too.

Do you have any plans to release any of your music in the near future?

Ed: We’re planning to release Qualified on 29th June.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Amber: I am loving Sneaky Sound System and Kings Of Leon. I’m also enjoying Friendly Fires and La Roux. There’s loads to good stuff out there right now. Too much choice.

Ed: I just downloaded a Greco Roman/Full Nelson Hip House Mix which is great. That music was from around ‘89 and it’s still so fresh. Metronomy, Friendly Fires too and anything on Kitsune and Modular. Like Amber says, so much good stuff out right now. And we also end up listening to ourselves a lot.

You can hear just how great they are for yourselves at their myspace page.  Also check out their blog for a quirky window into the minds of Heads.Hearts.  It’s strange in there!
