He says that when he first heard our sound it reminded him of the innovative free thinking 60's folk/jazz group Pentangle, who were famous for pushing the boundaries of folk way back then.

Sam: It's folk music but not as you've heard it before. All of the players in the band have different tastes in music as well, so this eclectic mix of stuff comes together to create a new brand of folk music!

Ben: It makes lots of people smile and some frown; these people are thrown from our gigs.

Marianne: I see it as music to uplift you (and warm the soul! Not far from a really good cuppa), music to get your feet tapping, if not dancing, music where everyone can join in, sing away and be in on it together, I love it when people sing along. I think it's very much about the live gigs! Unfortunately our drummer's away in Africa for a while, so I think it's time for the tambourines to come out! I think we're going to find Jack a mini kick drum as well, so we can keep on rollin'!

What’s been the highlight for Hot Feet so far?

Sam: Just playing gigs and getting people saying they like the music, for me that's the best thing in music.

Jack: For me, I just love playing gigs and getting nice feedback is always positive. Just after we recorded the EP, we were going to have the opportunity to collaborate with artist Su Blackwell after taking interest in the track ‘Origami Birds’, which unfortunately fell through.

Marianne: It's been great just receiving such a positive response so far, people have been really kind and supportive. Before you start putting your music out there, you don't have a clue what people are going to think, so it's so nice when someone says they like your music; writing can be so personal and it's easy to throw all of yourself into it, so it's a bit like being accepted. There have been a few gigs as well that were so much fun, such as a local one at 'The Woolpack' in Slad; We ended up playing amongst the audience as there wasn't much space, so it was a very in your face, intimate gig. At first I was terrified, but by the end everyone was dancing, singing along, standing on the sofas and tables, beer glasses flying, and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. I can't wait for more gigs like that. Hopefully the real highlights are to come though..! We're playing the 'Lock Tavern' in Camden on the 18th of June which I'm really looking forward to.

You’re from quite a rural area. What challenges does this give

in terms of getting your music out there?

Jack: So far, we haven’t really come across any great challenges in terms of getting our music listened. That’s probably largely thanks to myspace and networking via the Internet with facebook etc. I think if you really want your stuff to be heard, it’s probably a lot easier than it used to be. Being a relatively small town, there aren’t loads of promoters going round looking to promote your stuff but there are loads of great pubs that are supportive and make great venues, as well as our local record store Kane’s, which hosted a launch for our CD.  We’ve also been on local radio, being interviewed and playing live.

Marianne: There's some great music around here, but it can sometimes feel a bit sleepy; people are very supportive here but in terms of getting our music out there, I think we need to be amongst the buzz and bustle of the city where

you're surrounded by live music and music-lovers constantly. If you go down well there's a chance of taking things further which we'd like to discover. However, it's been nice recently doing a mixture of local gigs as well as gigs further afield; you go from knowing almost everyone in the crowd to not recognizing anybody. I'm feeling more and more drawn to the music scene in London now however, especially as I'd love for us to become involved in the 'folk revival'. There are definitely limits staying in a fairly rural town.

Ben: There aren't very many venues per say, but folk oriented music is well supported in the area through pubs, festivals and private events and parties.
