We’ve always known that the UK was a fantastic place to make and listen to music. The long history of giants in the music industry that hail from these isles proves our point well. However, it has always been the case that if you want to be taken seriously by the industry, at some point you had to take the long (?!) lonely road to the capital.
Although places like Liverpool, Sheffield, Glasgow and Manchester are legendary for their hugely influential music scenes, other than a few notable exceptions, acts have always had to repay their dues on the stages of London.
While some of theis is due to the laziness and insularity of the A&R and music press (you know who you are!) it has never been easy to know exactly what was going on around the country.
