she has a particular talent for vocal manipulation and uses her voice in a large variety of ways which is really important to us as we need someone who can be creative and original. We wrote a new song and gave her a demo to do something with and she produced these incredible multi-layered melodies, harmonising, reversing, moving around your head. Doing it live has been challenging, but very exciting.

Matt: She brings something dynamic to the table. Her voice is incredible and I think she lifts us when playing Live as she has so much energy as a performer. I think basically, she gives Nedry a focus and also something a bit more interesting to look at than two generic middle class white boys playing with their computers.

Who did you work with on your SZ EP?

Chris - The SZ EP is musically just Matt and I.  Some of the material was already in existence in one form or another before we actually sat down to finish it. I think it was a lot of good ideas that needed arrangement and direction. Playing these ideas live was the best way to find out what worked and what didn't. Our next EP is going to be pretty

different as it's formed from ideas we've come up purely for playing live and we now have the challenge of making that work on record.

Matt: For the SZ EP, we recorded live drums with Mark, the engineer at Empora Studios near Brighton and we mastered the whole thing at our friend Lewis’ studio. He’s a fantastic dubstep producer under the name Lethem, worth checking out.

What was the experience like?

Matt: I used to drum for a few bands about 5 years ago and I sold my kit to pay for fees and things for University. It was a seriously difficult choice to make at the time. I hadn’t played a kit in a few years so playing in a recording studio was pretty intense but I have to say I loved it. The rest of it was all composed and recorded in our respective studio spaces (bedrooms) so was a case of two-ing and fro-ing intensively for a couple of weeks to polish them off.

Chris – The experience was very enjoyable, relaxed, but also pressured. We both have a really high standard for our output and constantly questioned whether something worked or not. There were quite a lot of last minute tweaks. Working with Mark at Empora was great. We were both keen to have some 'live' acoustic sounds to add 'life' to the recordings as electronic music can often come across as quite clinical. It was cool to say, "Look let’s not tighten this rhythm up, let's

keep it loose and human". Hopefully that comes through.

Matt: And the fact I couldn’t keep time...

You’re currently working on a follow up to this. What can we expect from Nedry this time around?

Matt: We can expect more energy, more guitars and lots of vocals now that Ayu has committed her time to us a bit more. In short, we’re gonna make something that is going to push our sound in a direction that people will respond to both live and on record.

Chris - A lot of people have said that our live show is more energetic and aggressive than the recordings on SZ, so

we're hoping to capture more of that this time round. Higher tempo, distorted guitars, spooky sounding synths.

In your blog you’ve mentioned shooting your first (professionally shot) video. What can you tell us about this?

Matt: We shot the video with Juzz Media; I had worked with them before on a previous project in the past. In truth we are good friends with the guys that filmed it. It’s shot in HD and normally Juzz Media get paid for making videos but that’s all I can say about professionalism! I spent several hours where I was meant to be at work, hunting around central London trying to locate a helium gas canister for the shoot.
