Years of Rice and Salt - Service Bell EP

YEARS OF RICE AND SALT
SERVICE BELL - EP

A four track concept EP from London based band Years of Rice and Salt, the music charts the catastrophe of a shipwreck. Haunting strings and guitar lines build up to produce subtle yet beautiful melodies fitting of the subject. The only vocals are dreamy harmonies on the title track, yet the songs draw you in with their well written guitar lines. With hints of folk in places driven by violins adding to the seascape, the five piece instrumental outfit take you on an entrancing journey to the bottom of the ocean. The production of the music is outstanding, showcasing their instrumental excellence and obvious talent. ‘Service Bell’ is available now for free download from Last FM. Check it out.

Dirty Summer - EP

DIRTY SUMMER
DIRTY SUMMER - EP

A blistering EP filled with electro punk madness from the Dunfermline three piece. Dirty Summer combine evilly catchy keyboard lines with the harmonica from hell which brings tracks such as ‘Improvised Nike Ad’ to a noise driven crescendo. The distorted bass and driving beat on ‘Friday Night at the JJB Sports’ combines with fantastically aggressive incomprehensible vocals spat at you in a thick Scottish accent to create something truly unique and wonderful. The trios subversive cover of  ‘The Crystals’ 1963 classic ‘Then he Kissed Me’ is a joy, twisting the originals sickly sweet vibe and replacing it with dark tinged venom. Altogether a great EP, showing pure raw attitude. This year we’re hoping for a Dirty Summer!

Albany - The Bull and the Bear EP

ALBANY
THE BULL AND THE BEAR - EP

The Bull and the Bear is the second EP from London based four piece, Albany. Albany combine magnificent harmonies with inventive chord progressions to create songs with tight hooks that drag in the listener. The track ‘Puppet’ starts with a high energy guitar/piano line which is packed with style, while ‘Radar’ slows things down with tales of betrayal and unrequited love.  ‘Let you down’ down grabs you from the very first moment and doesn’t let go.
The band has a big sound, boundless energy and an obvious passion for their craft which shines through every song. Albany are, in their own words, “doing a Radiohead” allowing the consumer to pay what they want.  The Bull and the Bear is released on 6th March You can get the full EP from:
