When you do a bit of digging it’s pretty obvious that there are a few independent subcultures coexisting in and around Hull at the moment.  Whether it be the city’s excellent Pop Punk / Emo scene or the superbly strong Indie / Rock scene, there is a vast depth of talent waiting to be discovered.

Keeping with the traditions of the past, Hull’s folk scene is strong and varied, with many crossover artists blending in more contemporary styles and sounds.

Maybe it’s the long history of rebellion (the civil war started there; cultural eh) or perhaps the fogs rolling in from the Humber, but there’s a dark and brutal side to the old dock town too.  The thrash and death metal scene has found dark places to subvert and thrives in the shadows.

Just to make sure you can get a true flavour of the talent that’s out there we’ve compiled a list of the bands we’ve had recommended to us here along with their myspace pages.  Check them out.  It’s definitely worth it.
