Unlike most other places in the UK the city’s music scene isn’t dominated by indie bands, although there are still a lot of very good acts that represent most variations of the genre.  In fact Nottingham seems to be largely a rock city (which is obviously very apt!) with a sizable and varied rock contingent.  Indeed, every type of rock music is represented from blues based to breakbeat! 

The metal scene in Nottingham is also strong; a mix of the hard and the brutal.  Highly technical and at times theatrical, this can’t be too much of a surprise, all things considered. 

The city boasts a well developed punk scene that represents the traditional British punk style as well as the newer American version. 

It is also home to highly accomplished yet small Hip hop and Electronica scenes.

There are a number of Ska influenced acts too that often fuse other styles to make something that is unique and compelling. 

Nottingham is a hotbed for folk acts.  This ranges from folk pop through traditional to Americana.  In fact, if there is one thing that the scenes articles have taught us so far, it’s that the UK’s folk scene is alive and most definitely well with more variety than most people would think possible.

All in all Nottingham is a city on the up and music is set to play as big a part in the future as it has already in the past.  Perhaps more so.  As always we have put together a list of bands that have been recommended to us so you can see what we mean for yourselves.  We have also included he contact details for promoters, venues and other music related organisations that help to make everything possible.
