Your website and myspace page have some fantastic imagery. How is that developed?
Chow: I’ve been a graphics designer since I was 11, and I’ve always taken care of the band’s artwork, such as the album. I do all the graphics side of it and then send it over to Matt for the coding.
What music are you listening to at the moment?
Chris: Threat Signal, Meshuggah, Nine Inch Nails, Lamb of God, and Ihsahn’s new solo album. When I’m drinking, I love partying to Andrew W.K, that being something I’m sure the rest of the band will agree with.
Chow: I’m loving Unearth, as well as God Forbid’s new album. Killswitch Engage will always do it for me and I’m really getting back into Sylosis at the moment.
Sal: Talisman, Unearth, Mors Principium Est, Nightwish, God Forbid, and anything GLAM! Rihanna ticks all my boxes!
Matt: I love things that are slightly more prog, such as Gojira, Cynic and Mastodon, as well as (slightly embarrassingly) bands such as Chiodos, Brand New and Thrice. You can’t go wrong with Limp Bizkit!
Joe: Every Time I Die, Mastodon, Lamb Of God, Twelve Tribes, The Agony Scene, and Job For A Cowboy’s DOOM EP.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Matt: Me and Sal tend to pull riffs out of our arses, and then work on them until we come up with a song structure that works.
Chow: Watching stuff like Killswitch Engage’s DVD (World Ablaze) and Killadelphia by Lamb of God really gets me in the mood.
Chris: I just love beer and fast double kick!
Joe: Obscure crazy animé where they get their heads sliced off. Crazy shit.
What’s your dream collaboration?
Band: Jason Becker, Britney Spears and Enya. That’s like the most shredding, epic, poppy song EVER!
Cheers guys, it’s been great talking to you. Good luck with the album and when you’re ready, let us in on the title! Check out The Institution on myspace and their website.
