We then enlisted the help of Casey Lewis to play drums on the album in order to elevate the music and give it more power. Casey will also do the final mastering of 13 Arcane Hymns and we're excited to hear it. Other than this, it's been Gus and myself.

Gus De Beauville: I love questions like this, cause Steve is usually the straight shooter that delivers the scoop with the immediacy of a WWII sniper while I get to stare up at the clouds like a lost five year old and muse about all my 'inspirations' and ethereal visions that channelled the songs into my third eye as I meditated. Hahahah, seriously though, we kept the circle of collaborators very small in the album thus far. The main guy that comes to mind is indeed Casey - I still cannot believe how he learnt the structures and nuances for 13 songs in a few days and recorded them for us over a weekend. That, my friends, deserves a kiss on the ass by a Greek goddess and it serves as testament to his skill as a drummer. Other than Casey I have a few secret advisors that let me know if a song is working or if it's a piece of shit so our little system is working quite well for us.

What’s the response to the album been like so far?

Steve Moore: I've never seen a response like this. I don't know what to say about it. We’re getting reviews saying it's one of the best releases of the year, the metal scene needs this, etc, and this is just the demo version being reviewed. The album is not even out yet. It just reinforces my idea that 13 Arcane Hymns will surprise a lot of people, coming from an unknown project such as this. We did not set out to come on the scene with a demo, or a respectable debut. We've been paying our dues making our own music through solo work and other projects for a long time, and we're about ready to explode.

Gus De Beauville: So far the response has been interesting to say the least. I'm a pessimist at heart so it takes a lot to make me acknowledge genuine support and positive feedback from people - but this is exactly the response we have been getting. I love it but I'm always cautious. Don't forget folks...we're in Calgary so our music is only a few yeee-haaas away from the same studios that make Nickelback and Theory of a Deadman albums. We're like 2 black-hearted little salmon swimming upstream in very treacherous waters.

What drives you to make your music?

Steve Moore: I am simply drawn to it in a spiritual and also destructive sense.  Every aspect of my being seems to be attracted to music. There are two schools of thought about music that, especially today, are violently and permanently opposed. Many people think music's sole purpose is to dance to, to be played in the background or for fun or comedy

- subject matter need not apply. Other people, myself included, see music as an evolutionary tool, something deeply sacred and worthy of respect, a forum for catharsis, poetry, as well as intensely personal and political views.  I feel much more alive and vital listening to Public Enemy, Tool, or Dead can Dance than Lady GaGa or Lil Jeezy, for example - not that there's anything wrong with shaking your ass. I just don't think there's a rational argument to shut out intense music to any degree.

Gus De Beauville: I feel most alive when I'm creating - be it visual or musical art. I tried writing short stories but they were deemed too eccentric by my creative writing professor at University so I decided to focus on music which has since then become my most powerful passion. When I say it out loud it's silly but I really enjoy the idea of people having psychedelic, hallucinogenic experiences while listening to music. Almost like dark, occult rituals inspired by sound. This is where I want our music to delve into. A black, oily abyss filled with unknown wonders and horrors.

What’s coming up next for The Unravelling?

Steve Moore: Anything and everything. We're working on finishing the album and making it the best it can possibly be. Then we will finish auditions for the live band and begin performing the material. There will be a lot more press in the promotion of 13 Arcane Hymns. From there we look into more extensive touring, music videos and the right label if we decide to go that route. Also, we'll be sure to continue recording and remixing so we have lots to offer the fan club and members of our site, www.theunravellingmusic.com.
