Pete: Well said!
Do you have any plans to build on this success and tour out there?
Rich: Yeah, we're talking with a few booking agencies about us opening for bigger bands there. We'll see what happens.
Pete: We definitely hit the ground running for 2009 and just 2 days into the new year we were announced as ‘Best Unsigned Band of The Year’ in Terrorizer magazines annual readers poll, which as you can imagine is a fantastic title to have which we are all so very proud of & was a great start to the year!
Do you have any plans to take the Warpath sound to a wider European audience?
Rich: Definitely. As I said, we're playing Germany later this year, and we have a few other shows planned around Europe. I can't really go into many details right now but we're working hard on it.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Rich: Inspiration is strange. I can get inspired after watching a film, or after an experience, or just when I'm out walking somewhere. Sometimes just as I'm about to fall asleep I'll get an idea for a riff or melody or a cool lyric or song name. Some of the new material we're writing is inspired less about war and more from experiences with other people, good and bad. Since Damnation was released, we've attracted jealousy from other bands and certain people trying to screw us over, which is unpleasant but serves for good inspiration.
Pete: Yeah that’s totally right. You can be inspired by so many different things in so many different ways like Richard already mentioned films and books and other things like certain scenery, places, feelings and experiences that have an impact on your life or life around you. But it’s then taking that burst of inspiration and turning it into a piece of music that is wonderful in itself and really shows in our songs. You’ll find no goofy comic book references or “party” based lyrics in this band!
How did you meet and go on to form the band?
Rich: I formed the band in 2003 in my home town. We gigged with a different line up for a few years. Our drummer James asked to join after seeing us at a few shows. I was blown away by his drumming skills so immediately said yes. We met Pete through Myspace actually. He had posted something on the Megadeth profile. I don't even know why, but I clicked on his profile and saw that he was a guitarist. We got talking and I invited him to come down and record on the album (James and I were recording it at the time). We were so impressed with his playing that we invited him to join the band full time. Soon after Joel joined the band on bass, and a week later we filmed the music video.
What’s been the Warpath highlight so far?
Rich: For me, there are a few. Being named 'The Best Unsigned band of the Year' in Terrorizer Magazine, Number One added on USA radio, Number One music video on Scuzz, seeing the album actually stocked in HMV, working with James Murphy, playing Bloodstock Open Air. Those are the things that I'm most proud of so far.
Pete: I agree, Bloodstock Open Air and being featured in Terrorizer two months in a row are fantastic highlights for me!
You recently shot a video for ‘Damnation’, what was the experience like?
Rich: It was a lot of hard work, and I doubt it's anything that most people imagine it is. I have such a big respect for actors after filming the video. It was tough. We filmed for nearly thirty hours straight, take after take, no sleep, in a freezing cold warehouse in January in east London. Imagine head banging, wind milling, singing, and playing the same song for nearly thirty hours. Dave Kenny and Bruno Mathez (the main guys behind the video) pushed us to the limit, which was great! They also worked incredibly hard for weeks after the filming, editing and perfecting the video. The end result speaks for itself. I can't wait to work with them again.
Pete: We filmed in two locations in mid January which is cold enough but also in England the sun is a myth so it’s even colder! Hahah. It was extremely hard work but totally worth it when you see it is currently the No. 1 rated metal music video on Scuzz!
